Vova Even here, and I've been selling on Amazon FBA for over seven years now.
Today's blog post is all about Amazon sales estimators.
These are handy tools that can help you guesstimate how many times a specific product gets sold on Amazon each month.
Now, it's important to remember that these are just estimates, not a crystal ball.
But they're a great way to get a feel for how popular a product might be before you decide to sell it yourself.
In this post, I'm going to show you a few of my favorite free sales estimators, how to use them, and even some resources where you can find deals on software that includes these tools.
So, whether you're a seasoned Amazon seller or just getting started, this information can be a valuable asset.
Let's jump right in!
The Free Amazon Sales Estimator by Helium 10
The first free sales estimator I want to share with you is from a powerful tool called Helium 10.
Helium 10 offers a variety of features for Amazon sellers, but for now, we'll focus on their free sales estimator.

So, what exactly does Helium 10 Sales Estimator do?
It helps you predict the average number of sales a particular product gets on Amazon each month.
This can be a huge advantage when you're deciding whether or not to sell a specific item.
Here's how it works:
To use the estimator, you'll need a few pieces of information about the product you're interested in:
Best Seller Rank (BSR): This is a number assigned by Amazon that shows how a product ranks compared to other similar products. Generally, a lower BSR means the product sells more often.
Marketplace: Is the product being sold on Amazon.com, Amazon.de, or another Amazon marketplace?
List Price: This is the price the seller sets for the product.
Category: What category does the product belong to on Amazon (for example, Electronics, Clothing, etc.)
Once you have this information, you can input it into the Helium 10 Sales Estimator.
The tool will then analyze the data and give you an estimate of the product's monthly sales volume.
Let's break down that BSR thing a little further...
The BSR, or Best Seller Rank, is a ranking system specific to Amazon.
The lower a product's BSR, the more popular it is and the more sales it likely generates.
For example, a product with a BSR of 100 is likely selling much better than a product with a BSR of 10,000.
Let's actually find all this information for a specific product.
Head over to Amazon.com and pick any product (we'll use a random example here).
Let's say we found a product called "Reishi mushroom extract."
So, in order to find the BSR, scroll down the product page until you see a section titled "Product details"
(This section might also be called "Additional Information" on some product pages).
Here, you can often find the product's BSR by looking for a line that says "Best Sellers Rank" or something similar.
Another handy trick is to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F (or Command+F on a Mac).
A search bar will appear at the top of your browser window.
Type in "product details" and press Enter.
This should jump you right down to that section on the page.
Once you've found this section, look for the BSR.
In our example of the Reishi mushroom extract, as you can see, the BSR is 15,976.
We can also see that the category for this product is "Health & Household."
Using the BSR with the Estimator
Now that we know the BSR, let's head back to the Helium 10 Sales Estimator.
Enter the BSR we found (15,976) into the estimator.
Here's a cool thing to note: The estimator recognizes that BSR can sometimes fluctuate a little, so it allows you to enter a range.
This way, you can see an estimate of sales for a product's BSR that might be slightly higher or lower than the exact number you found.
In our example, let's try entering a range of 15,000 to 16,000.
This will give us an idea of how sales might change based on small variations in BSR.
The estimator will then show you a range of possible sales figures based on the BSR range you entered.
Don't forget the marketplace!
The Helium 10 Sales Estimator can also be used for products sold on Amazon marketplaces other than the United States (.com).
These include Amazon Canada, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, United Kingdom, India, and the Netherlands.
(New marketplaces might be added in the future, so be sure to check the Helium 10 website for the latest information.)
Next, we'll need to find the list price of the Reishi mushroom extract next, and then we'll be ready to plug all the information into the estimator and see some sales estimates!
Finding the List Price
The list price is simply the price the seller has set for the product.
On most Amazon product pages, you'll find the list price displayed prominently near the top of the page.
In our example, the Reishi mushroom extract has a list price of $19.95.
Finding the Category
You might have already noticed the category listed in the "Product details" section we found earlier when looking for the BSR.
If not, there are a couple of ways to find it.
Look near the product title: Sometimes, the category is displayed right next to the product title at the top of the page.
Use the breadcrumbs: Many product pages have a trail of breadcrumbs near the top of the page that shows the different categories the product belongs to. For example, the breadcrumbs might show "Home > Health & Household > Vitamins & Supplements > Reishi Mushroom Extract."
In our example, the Reishi mushroom extract is indeed in the "Health & Household" category.
Using the Estimator with All the Data
Now that we have all the information we need (BSR, Marketplace, List Price, and Category), let's head back to the Helium 10 Sales Estimator.
We can enter all this data into the tool and see what kind of sales estimate it gives us.
With all the information filled in, click the "Estimate Sales" button.
So, based on the data we entered, the estimator tells us that the Reishi mushroom extract could potentially sell between 1,997 and 2,123 units per month.
This translates to an estimated monthly revenue of $39,000 to $42,000.
It's important to remember that these are just estimates, not a guaranteed sales prediction.
There are many factors that can influence actual sales, and the estimator can't account for all of them.
Still, these estimates can be a valuable tool for getting a general idea of how a product might perform.

Jungle Scout: Another Free Sales Estimator Option
The second free sales estimator I want to recommend is from Jungle Scout.
Jungle Scout offers a variety of features for Amazon sellers, but just like Helium 10, they also have a free sales estimator tool.
So, how does the Jungle Scout estimator compare to the Helium 10 estimator we just discussed?
Both tools are similar in their basic function: they take information about a product (like BSR, marketplace, and category) and provide an estimate of how many units that product might sell each month.
There are a few slight differences to note:
Helium 10: This estimator allows you to input a range for the BSR, which can be helpful if you're unsure of the exact BSR or if the BSR fluctuates a bit. It also displays a range of possible sales figures and revenue estimates.
Jungle Scout: This estimator provides a single estimated sales figure per month.
Ultimately, both tools can be valuable resources for getting a rough idea of a product's sales potential.

Wrapping Up: Free Sales Estimators and What to Consider
Free sales estimators can be a helpful starting point for Amazon sellers when evaluating potential products.
These tools can give you a general idea of how popular a product might be and how many units it might sell each month.
However, it's important to remember that these are just estimates, and there are a number of factors that can affect a product's actual sales performance.
Here are a few limitations to keep in mind when using free sales estimators:
Accuracy: Estimates are not guaranteed. There can be variations in the accuracy of estimates from different tools, and even the most sophisticated tools can't predict sales perfectly.
Competition: These tools don't take into account the competitive landscape for a particular product. If there are many similar products being sold, it could be more difficult for a new seller to achieve the estimated sales figures.
Seasonality: Sales can fluctuate depending on the time of year. Free estimators may not account for seasonal trends.
So, while free sales estimators aren't a magic bullet, they can be a valuable tool in your Amazon research toolbox.
By using these tools in conjunction with other research methods, you can make more informed decisions about your Amazon selling strategy.
