When you're diving into Amazon Online Arbitrage, the first thing you need to master is product analysis.

It’s not just about finding a product and buying it — it’s about making sure it’s actually worth selling.

To do this, you need to answer four key questions:

  1. Does it sell?

  1. Can you sell it?

  1. Is it profitable?

  1. What extra information do you need before making a purchase?

Let’s break this down step by step.

But first, there’s something crucial you must do before analyzing any product…

Today's post was done with the help with the founder of Seller Assistant App, Oleg Kuzmenkov.

Step 1: Set Up Your Amazon Seller Account (Don’t Skip This!)

One of the biggest mistakes new sellers make is skipping the setup process.

Before you start analyzing products, you need to make sure your Amazon seller account is set up properly.

But that’s not all!

You also need to set up your browser correctly.

Here’s a simple but super important step:

  1. Open Amazon.com (or whichever Amazon marketplace you’re selling on).

  1. Set a zip code in the delivery location.

For example, if you’re selling in the United States, just pick a zip code from New York City or any other US location.

Why does this matter?

If you don’t set a zip code, Amazon will automatically show product listings that are delivered to your country — not necessarily the US.

If you’re browsing from another country, this means you might see fewer offers than what’s actually available in the US marketplace.

Most sellers don’t ship internationally, so if you’re looking at the wrong offers, you might think a product isn’t selling well — when in reality, it might be doing great!

Setting the correct zip code ensures you see the real competition and don’t get misled by incomplete data.

Step 2: Cleaning Up the Product URL

Now that your seller account is set up, let’s talk about something sneaky that can mess up your product analysis — Amazon’s URL parameters.

Ever notice that when you open a product page, the URL is super long with a bunch of extra characters and numbers?

Here’s why that’s a problem:

If you open a product from a storefront, Amazon applies hidden filters.

These filters might show only one seller’s offer, hiding the prices and stock of other sellers.

This can mislead you into thinking there’s no competition or that the product is more expensive than it actually is.

To fix this, make sure to remove everything in the URL after the product’s ASIN (the unique product code).

Look for anything that starts with “ref=” in the URL — delete that part, and reload the page.

This ensures you’re seeing the correct buy box price and all available sellers.

Ready to Start Analyzing?

Now that you’ve got your Amazon seller account set up and your browser cleaned up, you’re finally ready to start analyzing products the right way!

These small setup steps make a HUGE difference in ensuring that you get accurate data when researching products for Online Arbitrage.
