SmartScout Seller Map Tool Review and Tutorial

Introduction

Vova: Let’s talk about the Seller Map tool for a moment.

This tool is actually how I first discovered SmartScout back in the day.

Scott: Yeah, and honestly, the Seller Map really gave SmartScout a lot of attention.

If I’m being upfront, this tool has probably been the most effective feature we’ve offered in the past three and a half years.

It’s what really helped people understand what we do here at SmartScout.

We made it accessible on our website, so anyone can try it out for about 15 minutes at no cost.

Tutorial

Scott: Let me show you. I'll jump into the New York City area on the Seller Map because, honestly, it lights up like a Christmas tree there.

Look at the screenshot below.

You can see so many sellers, and we’ve actually added a color-coded layer to help make sense of all the different types.

If you see a seller marked in purple, it means they carry a lot of different brands.

The yellow markers, on the other hand, are for sellers who only handle one or two brands.

This color system makes it easy to spot the private label sellers and the resellers.

There’s a solid mix of both on Amazon.

I know some people might only pay attention to private label sellers and overlook resellers, but there are actually a ton of resellers, and some of them are huge!

The reseller space is significant, and there’s a lot more going on there than many people realize.

On the other hand, there are also a lot of private label brands doing really well.

Seller Map features hundreds of successful private label brands.

Just to show an example, I’ll randomly click on one of them – let’s say Value Meds.

When you click on Value Meds, you can see all the products they sell.

Through this data, it's clear that

  1. Value Meds is a private label brand bringing in around a million dollars a month.

  1. It's focused on supplements, specifically for allergy relief.

  1. It has clearly done a good job with all products and the brand.

So, with Seller Map, you can have a bird's-eye view of any brand's performance and details.

And once you're done, you can easily return to exploring more sellers.

Now, let’s take a look at another one – here’s KELLARDS.

They don’t really explain what they do, but I can tell they sell Nikon products. (Refer to the screenshot below.)

It looks like they may even have their own private label.

They carry other brands like Sennheiser – that’s more electronics – and JBL as well.

Vova: Yes.

Scott: And they also have Kodak, so it seems like they focus a lot on photography and electronics.

I can even dig deeper into KELLARDS from here, going from one brand to another. (Refer to the screenshot below.)

Vova: Cool, so you can move from a seller to a brand, then to another seller, and keep exploring more brands.

P.S. If you already feel impressed with the SmartScout Seller Map, here’s full tutorial of the tool:

Scott: Yes. I think KELLARDS has created their own branded bundles.

What they’re doing is taking a product from a well-known brand, then combining it with something from their own brand or another branded item to make a bundle.

This is what KELLARDS is known for — they take one product and add something extra from another brand to create a combined package.

Sometimes this strategy works out well.

Vova: I guess they’re getting benefits from the keywords of both brands in the bundle, especially if one is more popular.

Scott: Exactly. Some resellers do really well with this approach.

But, of course, the original brand has the right to take the bundle down if they don’t agree with it.

So, these bundles usually need to have permission from the original brand to stay up.

Vova: Yeah, that makes sense.

Scott: When brands approve of these bundles, there can be benefits for everyone.

Having several bundles of your brand’s products on Amazon can be helpful because it gives customers more ways to find your products.

That’s where the Seller Map comes in; it’s pretty interesting to browse through.

You can even zoom in on places like China, where the map lights up, almost overwhelming with how much activity there is.

Vova: Especially with all the private labels.

Scott: Right, particularly with the private labels coming out of southern China.

I came across a seller the other day with the name “Motion US.”

They aren’t actually US-based, but they use “US” in their name.

Vova: They might be thinking that using “US” in their name will help them connect better with customers.

Scott: Yeah. That's funny.

Vova: Oh, what are those cars?

Scott: Those are actually robotic lawnmowers.

They are designed to mow lawns on their own.

I bet they are selling really well right now.

Vova: Really?

Scott: Yes, they are currently the number one bestseller in the category of robotic lawnmowers.

Can you believe that?

They make about $4,000 a month.

That’s quite a pricey lawnmower!

Vova: That’s very interesting.

It’s a high-ticket product.

There are different variations too. Impressive!

Scott: Right! This one is their premium model.

It can cost a bit less if you choose other options.

Vova: So, with the Seller Map, you can explore products from all over the world.

For example, someone in Italy who wants to resell can easily find resellers or private label options available in Italy.

Scott: You know, many successful people have a unique understanding of brands from their own countries.

They know what products their fellow citizens love, and they find ways to introduce those brands in other countries.

For instance, I have spoken with several individuals who focus on bringing Italian brands to the United States.

Of course, there are some challenges to overcome, but once you establish the right distribution channels, you can provide products that many people really enjoy.

It’s quite fascinating.

Because we have access to this Seller Map that shows data from various countries, let’s explore the UK for a moment.

We can look at the top sellers there.

Let's go with London.

Vova: Cool!

Scott: The market in London is not as large as some might think.

In fact, one of the bigger sellers here is earning about $100,000 a month.

That’s still a good amount, though!

If I set the maximum number of sellers to 5,000, it will help us find the larger sellers more easily.

Vova: Look at that! There is someone really big over there.

Scott: It’s probably Amazon.

Vova: Oh, Amazon, yes, that makes sense.

Scott: If you take a closer look at Amazon, you will see that they sell many brands.

If you want to check out all the brands they carry, just give it a moment to load.

It might take a few seconds.

I believe they have around a thousand brands listed.

In fact, we are tracking more than 20,000 brands!

Some of the big names include Lego, Apple, Amazon Ring, Russell Hobbs, and HP.

These are all major players in the market.

To cut short, that's the potential of our Seller Map tool.

Vova: It's amazing!
