A+ Content vs Regular Product Descriptions

Amazon A+ content essentially allows you to describe product features in an advanced way. While basic product descriptions effectively communicate what your product is, this premium feature enables you to add detailed charts, videos, images, descriptions, and custom copies.

By enhancing your product descriptions, you can increase traffic and conversions. Additionally, it can help you reduce negative reviews and product returns because you'll be able to describe your product in a much more detailed way.

The Benefits of Incorporating Pictures in Product Descriptions

A+ content allows you to optimize and enhance a brand product description to ensure viewers understand the product features more effectively.

One feature — in particular — that engages potential customers and creates a more sophisticated online shopping experience is comparison charts. Amazon’s A+ tool enables you to compare a specific product with various others, allowing you to go in-depth about its features and benefits.

Furthermore, it helps prospects better understand which product matches their need and makes them feel confident in their purchase.

Step-by-Step Tutorial for Adding Images to Your Product Description

Let’s dive into the five steps to creating A+ content on Amazon:

Step # 1: Ensure You Meet the Eligibility Criteria

Before creating A+ content, you must meet Amazon’s eligibility criteria. Therefore, in order to take advantage of this tool, you must be registered with and approved by Amazon’s Brand Registry.

If you’re not yet registered, you can use the Amazon IP Accelerator tool to complete it within two weeks. But remember that getting your brand trademarked costs money. For me it was about $800. It depends on your brand and your product. To know the exact price, contact a lawyer that helps with it. The link above grants you access to lawyers and firms that Amazon itself recommends.

Step # 2: Choose the Ideal Module

After your brand is registered and approved by Amazon’s Brand Registry, you can add enhanced brand content to your ASIN.

Go to Seller Central, hover over "Advertising" and click on "A+ Content Manager', then click on "Start Creating A+ Content". Then choose the "Basic" option. "Brand Story" is another option of adding additional images to your product description. Today I will concentrate on the "Basic" option since it gives way more options.

Start by entering your content’s name, preferred language, and the right ASIN. Next, it’s time to select a module that helps you highlight your product’s features and benefits the best. Let’s take a look at several modules:

  1. Standard Company Logo - You can drag and drop your company's logo here.

  1. Standard Comparison Chart - I have shown how it looks in my video, but here's a brief: The comparison chart is where you can compare a few of your products. However, make sure to compare items that are relevant in some way.

For example, if you sell multiple kitchen knives or similar items like a regular knife, a chef knife, and a knife sharpener, you can compare them here. Comparing dissimilar products isn't recommended because their keywords and targeted audiences differ.

Back to the module, the Standard Comparison Chart is a drag-and-drop interface where you can easily upload product images, their keywords, titles, and ASINs in just a few seconds. After adding these specifics, you can insert multiple comparison metrics, such as how the products compare in terms of material, length, and usability.

I recently had an interview with Emma Schermer Tamir, a professional copywriter, to discuss these metrics in detail. If you're interested in leveraging the comparison chart fully, I recommend you watch this video down below.

  1. Standard Four Image & Text - Here, you can upload images of the product for that you are creating the description. Each image should evoke one key feature, which should be elaborated upon in the image's caption.

  1. Standard Four Image/Text Quadrant - This is another section where you can upload your product images and write captions. But before going on to the next point, I'd like to give a gentle precautionary measure that content is what gets you noticed. Therefore, if you're not good at writing, that's not a bad thing; we can't be experts in everything, so feel free to hire a professional writer to do the job for you.

As stated in the introduction, I will shortly share a few companies that offer reliable content-writing services. And, if you contact them through me, you will receive discounts as well. So, keep reading. :)

  1. Standard Image and Dark/Light Text Overlay - Exactly as it sounds, you can add text with a dark or light background on the image.

  1. Standard Image Header with Text - Through this option, you can upload almost screen-wide images (dimensions mentioned on the page) and add headlines and captions for them.

  1. Standard Multiple Image Module A - Here, you can add multiple images with captions and headlines that can be hovered over.

  1. Standard Product Description Text - Describe your product with simple text here.

  1. Standard Single Image & Highlights - Image, headline, sub-headline PLUS headline & a bullet point text.

  1. Standard Single Left Image - In this section, you can upload an image and give it a descriptive headline and caption. Make sure both the image and text complement each other.

  1. Standard Single Right Image - In this section, you can upload an image and give it a descriptive headline and caption. Make sure both the image and text complement each other.

  1. Standard Technical Specifications - Specify the product's dimensions, weight, and packaging here. Or any other things that apply to your product.

  1. Standard Single Image & Specs Details - This part allows you to upload an image of your product and describe its features using simple text and bullet points. I would suggest that you provide as much information as possible. It is not about making your page appear fancy, but rather about making it more beneficial to customers.

  1. Standard Three Images & Text - This option is the same as the above one but you can add three images here.

There are also various other options, if you want to see them all, read the Jungle Scout A+ Content Tips. This is an article by Brian Conolly from Jungle Scout.

Step # 3: Add Images and Content

The next step after choosing your module is to add images and content.

For instance, if I select the “Comparison Chart,” Amazon allows me to compare up to six products. As I briefed earlier, in this section, I can add product images, titles, and keywords.

Likewise, if I choose the “Multiple Image Module,” Amazon allows me to take advantage of the hover and click feature that, in my opinion, is more valuable and engagement boosting.

While creating A+ content, ensure you discuss product features that matter to your customer. Your goal is to provide relevant details and improve user experience to drive buying decisions and increase conversions. Thus, ensure you follow Amazon’s A+ content guidelines properly so your product page doesn’t look awkward.

Step # 4: Apply ASIN

This step is pretty self-explanatory: you must add your product’s Amazon Standard Identification Number aka ASIN here.

Amazon allows you to search for ASINs to match the A+ content you created. Remember that you can only add ASINs from your Amazon seller account.

Step # 5: Review Your Product Descriptions

After adding images, writing content, and applying ASINs, you can click on the “Review and Submit” button.

Before you submit, preview your content on desktop and mobile (Amazon gives you the option to do so) to ensure you optimize your product descriptions for both.

Step # 6: Submit For Approval

Last but not least, it’s time to submit your A+ content for final approval. When you’re ready to publish, hit the Submit button and wait as Amazon evaluates your product description.

If you violate any of their terms, such as including restricted language like guarantee, free, etc., or adding copyright symbols, Amazon will delay your approval process. Sometimes it happens immediately (you'll get a message that something is wrong), and sometimes you'll get an error notification after Amazon checks your A+ manually.

However, if your product description complies with their guidelines, it will only take up to seven days to get approved.

Does Including Images in Your Product Description Improve Conversions?

When done rightly, Amazon says that A+ content can help you improve your conversions by a whopping 5.6 percent. But to achieve that, your content must be compelling, highly relevant, and fully optimized. Only this way, creating unique and educational content can help you drive traffic to your listings and grow sales.
