Vova: Hey, Carrie! Today, let's dive into Helium 10 Cerebro and explore how this tool can help us with Amazon keyword research in a simple and effective way.

How can we use Cerebro to find the right keywords for our products on Amazon?

Carrie: Alright Vova, let's jump into Cerebro and find those winning keywords!

Here's my usual approach: First, I take a look at the Helium 10 tool called Xray.

This tool helps me identify the top sellers in a particular niche.

Next, I head over to Cerebro.

With this tool, it's important to know that it works by comparing keywords to a starting point.

When you're already selling a product, you'll want to enter your product's ASIN (a unique Amazon product identifier) first.

This way, Cerebro can show you how your product stacks up against competitors based on the keywords they're using.

So, the first step is to find those top sellers and then use their ASINs in Cerebro to see what keywords are driving their success.

And since we're focusing on understanding how Cerebro works, let's not worry about using your specific product just yet.

Instead, we can pick one of the top sellers that Xray identified for us.

Here's a handy trick: Sort the Xray results by "Revenue" to see which products are selling the most in this niche.

By looking at the top sellers, we can get a good idea of what's working for them.

So, this product on top is the current bestseller, bringing in over $52,000.

Now, there are two ways to get started with Cerebro.

You can click the checkbox next to this product and choose "Run Cerebro."

Or, you can copy and paste the product's ASIN directly into Cerebro.

This is a great way to jump right into Cerebro's analysis.

It automatically sends the ASIN (product identifier) over to Cerebro.

Yes, there's no need to copy and paste!

Cerebro will then analyze the keywords this top-selling product ranks for and present the results for you.

Now, remember, if you want to compare these keywords to your own product later, you'll need to manually enter your product's ASIN in Cerebro.

But for now, let's explore the information Cerebro pulls up for this best-selling product.

Here, you'll see a list of different keywords with Cerebro providing helpful details for of them, such as:

  1. Keyword Sales: This shows you how many sales this product generates through this specific keyword.

  1. Search Volume: This tells you how often people search for this keyword on Amazon.

  1. Trends: This indicates whether the search volume for this keyword is increasing, decreasing, or staying steady over time.

  1. Title Density: This shows you how many other competing products have this keyword in their titles.

Delving a little deeper into Title Density – it tells us how many competing products on the first page of search results have the exact keyword in their titles.

The higher the title density, the more competition there is for that keyword.

So, keywords with a low title density (ideally zero) present a good opportunity for you.

Why?

Because if you include that keyword in your own product title, you'll have a better chance of ranking higher for it in search results.

So, when looking at keywords in Cerebro, I always keep an eye out for those with low title density.

Here's another trick I use for competitor research – checking out their sponsored ads!

It's natural to be curious about the keywords your competitors are targeting.

So, in Cerebro, we can sort the results by "Sponsored Rank" to see the keywords they're using in their sponsored ads.

This can give you valuable insights into their advertising strategy.

However, it's important to be mindful that some sellers might use automated campaigns for their sponsored ads.

These campaigns can sometimes include irrelevant keywords that don't accurately reflect the product itself.

For instance, the first keyword here is "dog nail ointment," which clearly doesn't match the product being advertised.

This is a good reminder of why thorough keyword research is so important.

By manually selecting relevant keywords, you can avoid the pitfalls of automated campaigns and reach the right audience with your sponsored ads.

Here, we see another example – "cat teeth cleaning shoes."

It's clear that this keyword isn't a good fit for the product being advertised.

While their overall strategy might not be perfect, there could still be some valuable takeaways.

For instance, I once came across a competitor who was targeting brand names of smaller, third-party brands (not giant companies like Nike) in their sponsored ads.

Surprisingly, this tactic was working well for them!

Seeing this success, I decided to create a video ad using a similar approach.

By targeting relevant brand names, I was able to generate significant sales (around 15,000 to 20,000 dollars) in just the first month!

Wrapping Up…

In this conversation with Carrie from Helium 10, we explored how Cerebro can be your secret weapon for finding the right keywords to target on Amazon.

Here's a quick recap:

  1. Start with Xray: Identify top sellers in your niche using this tool.

  1. Jump into Cerebro: Analyze keywords used by those top sellers. You can enter a competitor's ASIN or your own.

  1. Analyze Keyword Data: Cerebro provides valuable details like sales generated by a keyword, search volume, trends, and competition level in titles.

  1. Target Low Title Density Keywords: Keywords with fewer competitors in titles offer a better chance of ranking well.

  1. Spy on Competitor Ads: See what keywords your competitors are using in their sponsored ads, but be cautious of irrelevant keywords from automated campaigns.

By following these steps and using Cerebro's insights, you can discover high-performing keywords to target for your Amazon listings and boost your product's visibility.
