Alok: Can you really sell a private label business?

How does that work compared to something like online arbitrage?

Vova: Yeah, absolutely, you can sell a private label business.

If you're doing online arbitrage, you can sell that too.

You could create a system around online arbitrage — maybe you have a team that searches for products, buys them from stores like Walmart, then ships them to Amazon and handles the transactions.

That can be done, but honestly, it’s a bit harder to sell that type of business, at least from what I know.

Private label businesses, on the other hand, are a lot easier to sell.

Let’s say I’ve built a brand with five solid products.

I have reliable suppliers, all the systems and supply chain in place, and the financial records are ready.

In that case, I can simply hand the business over to you.

You’d pay me for it because the business is already making money — it’s a proven model.

For example, if this business is earning $100,000 a year in profit on Amazon, the selling price would often be based on a multiplier.

How Much Can an Amazon FBA Private Label Business Sell For?

A typical offer might be 2x the yearly profit, for a smaller business. It also depends on the economy etc.

So, if the business makes $100,000 per year, it could sell for $200,000.

If the offer is 3x, then it could sell for $300,000.

Of course, these numbers depend on a lot of factors - what the profits looked like last year, projections for the coming year, the current market for buying businesses, and so on.

I know people who’ve sold their businesses for 3x or even a bit more, like 3.2x or 3.4x.

There are also deals that go up to 6x, depending on the type of business and what buyers see as its growth potential.

What Do Buyers Look For in a Private Label Business?

Buyers want to understand how they can grow the business after they acquire it.

If someone pays $200,000 for a business making $100,000 a year, they probably want to scale it further and get more value from their investment.

That’s one of the really great things about private label businesses — they’re actually sellable.

Real Examples of Sellers Who Made Successful Exits

I have friends who’ve done successful exits, like Dan McGill, Andri Sadlak, and Reggie Young.

They’ve all sold their businesses.

Compared to online arbitrage, private label businesses often appeal more to buyers because of their growth potential and stability.
