Vova: Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel!

Today, I'm excited to talk about one of the best keyword research tools called Helium 10 Cerebro.

It's a one-stop shop for both Amazon and Walmart keyword research, but in this article, we'll be focusing specifically on the Amazon side of things.

On Amazon, Cerebro acts as a reverse ASIN tool.

What that means is you can take any product listing on Amazon, identified by its ASIN code, and feed it into Cerebro.

Cerebro then does the heavy lifting for you, uncovering all the keywords that specific product ranks for on Amazon.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

There's so much more to Cerebro that we'll be exploring throughout this article.

But before we jump into the nitty-gritty, I wanted to let you know about a couple of resources.

First, if you're interested in trying out Helium 10 for yourself, there's a button below to grab a free account and even a free trial.

I've also got the best discount codes available, so you can save some money when you sign up.

Here are the discount codes you can use at checkout:

  1. VOVA10: This code gives you a sweet 10% discount that applies for the entire lifetime of your subscription. That's right, ongoing savings!

  1. VOVA6M20: This code offers a hefty 20% discount, but keep in mind it's only valid for the first 6 months of your subscription.

On top of that, there's a whole playlist with over 150 videos that walk you through all the different parts of Helium 10, step-by-step.

So, if you're new to the platform or want to brush up on some features, that playlist is a goldmine of information.

Now, let's get back to the exciting stuff!

Joining me today is Carrie Miller.

Carrie is not only a successful Amazon seller, but she's also part of the Helium 10 team.

Carrie, thanks for joining me today to show us this cool feature!

Carrie: Thanks, Vova! Happy to be here to help.

Cerebro is a particularly useful feature because it lets you peek behind the curtain at your competitors' Amazon strategy.

You can see what keywords they've been targeting over the past two years!

Let me show you how it works on screen.

Here, we have a competitor that significantly outsold us in December – they actually doubled our sales!

I was curious to see where they were ranking and what keywords they were targeting that we might have missed out on.

To find out, I simply grabbed their ASIN and did a reverse ASIN search in Cerebro.

Now, here's the cool part.

By clicking on "Show Historical Trend," Cerebro will reveal the past 24 months of data for this competitor.

This includes how many keywords they ranked for organically and through sponsored ads during that entire time frame.

The orange line represents organic rankings, and the purple line shows sponsored rankings over the past two years.

Now, remember how they significantly outsold us in December?

Let's dig deeper into that specific month and see what keywords they were targeting that we might have missed.

To do that, I'll click on December, 2022 and then hit "Apply Filters."

This will narrow down the data to show us only the keywords they were ranking for in that specific month.

So, let's take a closer look at the keywords our competitor was ranking for.

This section here shows all the keywords for which this product ranked organically and through sponsored ads.

We can easily sort and see their ranking positions.

For example, if we're curious about the keywords they ranked in the top 20 spots, all we need to do is select "1 to 20" from the filter options and click "Apply Filters."

This will display only the keywords where they secured a top 20 ranking, both organically and through sponsored ads.

As you can see, there are quite a few keywords here!

Let's take a look at some of them in more detail.

There are several keywords where this competitor secured the coveted number one ranking in December.

Even better, many of these keywords have a healthy search volume!

For instance, look at "Gothic home decor."

Back in December, they were ranked number one for this term, which has a search volume of over 16,000 per month.

That's a significant amount of potential traffic!

Finding these kinds of keywords that our competitor is targeting but we might have missed is exactly why this Cerebro feature is so helpful.

It gives us valuable insights into what's working for them and allows us to potentially add these terms to our own strategy.

Another interesting find is "Gothic gifts for women."

It seems our competitor was ranking number one for this more specific term as well.

They even ranked number two for the broader term "goth gifts."

These are all valuable insights that we can use to our advantage.

But wait, there's more!

I also like to get even more specific with my research.

Sometimes, it's helpful to see if competitors are targeting keywords related to specific holidays or seasonal events.

For example, I can look for key phrases containing terms like Christmas, gift, holiday, etc.

Remember, when applying filters, choosing "All" for the phrase match can sometimes lead to inaccurate data.

Instead, I'm going to click "Any" to ensure we see a wider range of relevant keywords.

Let's take a closer look at these results.

This gives us a broader view of the gift-related terms our competitor was targeting.

For example, we see keywords like "Gothic gifts," "horror-themed gifts," and even "spooky gifts for women."

These are all terms we previously weren't considering in our own strategy.

Note that they ranked number seven for "spooky gifts," which still has a decent search volume of 4,000 per month.

This highlights a real opportunity we might have missed!

The beauty of this feature is that it's not limited to the holiday season.

Imagine you're selling summer-related products.

Cerebro allows you to go back and see what keywords were trending during the previous summer months.

This gives you valuable insights into what terms customers were searching for and what might be popular again in the coming season.

The same logic applies to any product with seasonal trends.

By using Cerebro's historical data, you can see how keyword popularity fluctuates throughout the year, allowing you to plan your keyword strategy accordingly.

So, this ability to filter and see historical keyword rankings is a game-changer.

You can see exactly where your competitor was ranking in the top 10 and top 20 spots during a given month they outsold you by a significant margin.

This information is pure gold!

Cerebro isn't just useful for analyzing competitor data, though.

As we discussed, the historical trend data is incredibly valuable for seasonal products.

Imagine you're launching a new line of summer beachwear.

With Cerebro, you can go back and see what keywords were trending in previous summers.

This gives you a roadmap of the search terms people were using, allowing you to plan your own strategy well in advance of the season.

Vova: This is definitely a cool feature, Carrie.

Seeing all these keywords our competitor was ranking for is really eye-opening!

It's clear they were doing something right with their strategy.

But what if someone has a lot of products, maybe 50 ASINs, and they're not sure exactly which keywords they're currently ranking for?

Can Cerebro help with that too?

Can we enter our own ASIN to see where we stand compared to the competition?

Carrie: That's a great question, Vova.

Unfortunately, with the historical filter we're using right now, you can't include your own ASIN for comparison at the same time.

Here's a workaround, though.

You can search your own ASIN separately.

So, you could go back and see where you ranked for specific keywords in the top 10, like "spooky gifts" or any of the others we just saw.

This way, you can manually compare your rankings to your competitor's.

We understand how helpful it would be to see both side-by-side, and the good news is that our team is always working on improvements.

Hopefully, this functionality will be added in a future update!

Vova: That's a very valid point.

Carrie, thanks so much for showing us this fantastic feature!

Hopefully, this will help our viewers and readers add some new keywords to their strategy and boost their sales in the upcoming Q4 season!

Carrie: Thanks for having me, Vova! I'm glad I could help.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Helium 10 Cerebro is a powerful tool that can help you spy on your competitor's Amazon strategy.

By looking at their historical keyword data, you can discover new keywords to target and boost your sales.

Cerebro is also useful for seasonal products, allowing you to see what keywords were trending in previous years so you can plan your strategy ahead of time.

While there are some limitations, like not being able to see your own ASIN side-by-side with the competitor's data yet, Cerebro is still a valuable tool for any Amazon seller.
