How to Scale Your Digital Marketing Agency

Vova: Hey Tin! A lot of readers out there are running their own digital marketing agencies, and they're looking to grow.

They're making a decent living, maybe around $10,000 a month, but they have their sights set on bigger things.

So, I wanted to pick your brain today about scaling an agency from $10,000 to $100,000 a month.

Are you currently focused on scaling your agency even further, or are you happy where things are at and looking to enjoy the success you've built?

What is the current status of Fuel Your Digital, and what are your thoughts on scaling in general?

You might have experience scaling other businesses as well –  we'd love to hear your insights!

Tin: That's a great question, Vova.

Scaling is definitely something we're focused on here at Fuel Your Digital.

Tip #1 – Explore New Ways to Do Outreach

We're constantly experimenting with new outreach methods to find what works best for us.

Cold emailing has been a reliable strategy, but we're always looking to add another layer on top that brings even better results.

However, it's also important to find a healthy balance.

Tip #2 – Maintain Work-Life Balance

Building a successful business takes a lot of hard work, and avoiding burnout is essential.

Taking a step back to assess your current situation and goals is a smart move.

This allows you to make informed decisions about where you want to take your agency next.

Tip #3 – Implement a Performance-Based System

Reaching the $100,000 mark often hinges on having strong systems in place.

For instance, agencies that rely heavily on manpower, like video editing companies, can find it more challenging to scale up to that level.

While they can certainly reach $20,000 or $30,000 a month, transitioning to $100,000 typically requires a performance-based service model.

Here's an example: Let's say you manage Facebook Ads for real estate agents.

Instead of a flat fee, you could offer a service where you guarantee them 5 to 10 leads for a set price (around $2,000)  plus a percentage of the sales generated from those leads.

This commission structure incentivizes you to deliver results for your clients.

Imagine the agent closes two leads, each worth $2,000 in commission for them.

Your service fee of $2,000 is added to the 10% commission you earn on the sales, bringing your total to $2,400.

This performance-based approach allows you to scale your income more easily, potentially reaching $200,000 a month much faster.

However, I would say that systems are truly the key to reaching the $100,000 mark.

When you run a six-figure agency, you're not the one glued to your phone managing every detail.

Instead, you have reliable systems in place that operate smoothly without your constant oversight.

Here's what that might look like: a team of project managers keeps things running efficiently, while a dedicated sales team focuses on bringing in new clients.

You might even have a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to handle broader strategic planning.

Tip #4 – Delegate and Step Away from Daily Tasks

The point is, to scale effectively, you need to delegate tasks and remove yourself from the day-to-day operations.

This allows you to focus on the bigger picture and strategic growth.

Of course, there's another crucial factor: client volume.

The more clients you can bring on board each month, the faster you'll reach your income goals.

Especially with a performance-based model, securing 20 new clients a month can put you well on your way to earning $50,000 to $100,000 monthly.

The exact amount depends on your service fees and other factors, but the principle remains the same – the more clients you serve with a performance-based structure, the greater your earning potential.

Scaling Requires Strong Systems

So, as I mentioned before, Vova, strong systems are absolutely critical for reaching the six-figure mark.

While I haven't personally scaled an agency to $100,000 a month myself, I've observed incredibly well-oiled systems in operation at some agencies.

The level of automation and organization can be mind-blowing.

In fact, some agencies are so systematized that they require a dedicated specialist – a system integrator – to ensure all the different tools and processes work together seamlessly.

This creates a smooth-running machine where everything functions efficiently, allowing the agency to focus on growth and client satisfaction.

Vova: That's a great point, Tin.
