Simon: Yes, thank you, Vova! Let’s dive right into it.
Meet My Guest – Simon
Simon: I’m Simon, and I run a packaging business here in China.
Our company doesn’t just create regular product packaging.
Instead, we focus on designing packaging that itself becomes a part of the product experience.
We believe that packaging should add something special — an extra touch that makes it stand out.
Our goal is to help you create packaging that leaves a strong impression on your customers, so they not only remember your product but also your brand.
-: Soft Reminder :-
Today, I want to talk about packaging for eCommerce in general.
eCommerce Product Packaging
Simon: eCommerce packaging is different from packaging for retail stores.
When you walk into a physical store and pick up a product, the packaging is a big part of how it grabs your attention.
It might have bright colors or unique designs that make it stand out on the shelf.
The psychology of retail packaging is designed to attract you before you even buy the product.
But when it comes to eCommerce, the situation is different.
With eCommerce, you don’t see or touch the packaging until after you’ve already purchased the product.
The customer has already made their decision, and the package arrives later, in their home.
So, the packaging’s role is different — it’s not about catching the customer’s eye in a store, but about leaving a positive impression once they’ve already bought the product.

Top 3 Tips for Creating Packaging for eCommerce Products
Simon: There is a lot to consider when it comes to packaging, and I’m really passionate about this topic, so we could go on about it all day.
But today, I want to focus on the three most important things I see when it comes to eCommerce packaging.
Tip #1 – Sustainability
Simon: The first thing I want to talk about is sustainability.
This is a topic that everyone is talking about these days, no matter where you are in the world.
From Africa to Asia, to the USA, and Europe, sustainability is becoming a top priority.
It’s all about consuming in a more responsible way and making sure we don’t waste resources unnecessarily.
Sustainability is a broad topic, and there are many different aspects to it.
It can include things like reducing the size of your packaging, minimizing the environmental impact of the materials you use, and choosing raw materials that are better for the planet.
There are many angles to approach sustainability, but in the context of eCommerce, there’s one key thing I recommend focusing on first: reducing excess packaging.
If you use packaging that isn’t necessary for your product, you’re wasting both resources and money.
Extra packaging takes up space in shipping containers, which means you end up paying more for transportation.
And when the package gets to its final destination — your customer’s door — you’ve spent even more money on delivery costs.
So, it’s essential to think carefully about the size of your packaging and optimize it as much as possible to avoid unnecessary costs.
This is the first piece of advice I’d give when considering sustainability in eCommerce packaging: Make sure you’re only using the packaging that is absolutely necessary.
The second important point I want to make about sustainability is about the use of plastic foam and other materials that are harmful to the environment.
These materials don’t create a good impression on customers either.
If you look back just six or seven years ago, sustainability was mostly about laws that the government put in place.
People became aware of the need for sustainability mainly because of these laws.
-: BEST OFFER FOR PACKAGING! :-
But today, things have changed.
Now, awareness about sustainability has grown so much that people are demanding action.
Customers are asking governments to pass laws that make packaging more environmentally friendly.
When customers receive a package now, many of them think, "Why do I need all this foam? Why all this plastic?"
People realize that there are better alternatives that don’t create so much waste.
So, when you’re thinking about packaging for eCommerce, the first step is to make sure you’re not using more packaging than necessary.
This is the size part we talked about earlier.
The bigger your packaging, the larger the footprint it leaves on the environment.
Smaller packaging means a smaller footprint and less waste.
Another thing to think about is the raw material you use.
Different materials have different impacts on the environment, so it’s important to choose those that are more sustainable.
The third thing to consider is the type of finish you apply to your packaging.
Some finishes, while attractive, aren’t very eco-friendly.
In future videos, I can share tips on how to create beautiful packaging that is also eco-friendly, even with certain artistic finishes.
But for now, it’s just something to keep in mind when designing your packaging with sustainability in mind.
Tip #2 – Design
The second tip I have for packaging in eCommerce is about first impressions, specifically from a design perspective.

Design is so important because it tells the story of your company.
A smart design is one that communicates your brand’s story to the customer.
This is especially important in e-commerce, where the customer’s interaction with your brand mostly happens through the packaging.
Once they receive the package, it’s the only time during the purchase process where the seller and the buyer directly connect.
That means the design of your packaging has to do a lot of work.
It should show who you are as a company and what your brand is about.
A good design will create a connection between the customer and your brand.
The second part of good design is using all the space available to you.
This is what I call the "real estate" of your packaging.
Most packages have two sides, and I see many companies trying to save money by printing on only one side of the packaging.
They don’t use the inside of the box or the other side of the packaging to communicate with the customer.
In my opinion, that’s a missed opportunity.
You already have the space available, so you should use it to its fullest potential to share your story, your brand message, or any other important information with your customer.
This is especially important for eCommerce businesses, where packaging is the primary way you communicate with the customer.
Vova: Before we move on to the third point, can you explain a little more about why it’s so important to print on both sides of the packaging?
Maybe a seller is listening and thinking, "That’s interesting, but I’m not printing on the inside of the box. Why should I? What does that do?"
Could you explain the benefits and maybe give an example?
-: Avail this NOW! :-
Simon: Sure! Let me show you something.
Here’s an example of a simple package. I’m not going to show the brand, because I’m not allowed to, but you can see there’s printing on both the outside:
And the inside:
When a customer opens the package, they can see the listing and a message on the inside as well.
This creates a little more time for communication between the seller and the buyer.
But if you only print on the outside, or the back of the box, many people don’t even read that part.
Most people don’t really pay attention to the back of the box.
But when they open the package, they do notice what’s inside.
So using both sides for printing is another opportunity for communication, and we definitely don’t want to miss that.
That’s why I think it’s really important.
Tip #3 – Packaging Components
Simon: So, the first thing is sustainability, the second is design, and the third thing I want to talk about is the packaging components.
This part is all about adding little touches like a thank you card, or something simple like wrapping a book in some tissue paper.
It may seem small, but it’s about creating a feeling as soon as the customer takes the product out of the box.
That feeling is another way to communicate with the customer.
It could communicate luxury, comfort, or simply show that you care about their experience.
Thinking about these small details in your packaging is really important.
It’s not just about a thank you card or tissue paper.
It can also be things like small stickers when the customer opens the box, or a nice touch in the paper inside, or even a special feel to the outside of the packaging.
There are so many small things that packaging can communicate, especially if you want to create the feeling of a luxury brand.
So, to sum up, the three key points I want to mention for eCommerce packaging are: first, sustainability; second, design; and third, the packaging components.
These are all really important when you’re thinking about your packaging strategy.
Vova: That’s really great information, man.
For anyone looking for packaging solutions, there’s a button below where you can find all the details.
-: You GOTTA Consider This! :-
If you need help with packaging or if you need advice on what’s best for your brand, Simon can definitely assist.
Simon! From what you’ve shared, it’s clear that you have a lot of knowledge and experience in this area.
For example, if someone is planning to create a luxury brand and needs help with packaging, you can guide them based on what you know about what creates the right feeling.
There are details like the texture of the material, the shapes, and the overall design that really communicate luxury.
These are things that I might not fully understand, but you do, and you can explain how different elements can communicate different feelings.
So if someone is interested in these ideas, they can talk to you and even work with you to bring those ideas to life.
Thanks a lot, Simon, for sharing all of this!
Simon: Awesome! Thank you so much, Vova!
