If you’re selling on Amazon in the UK or EU, one of the first questions you’ll run into is: “How do I handle VAT in my profit calculations?”

That’s where Sellerboard comes in.

The tool has a built-in VAT setting that lets you see your actual profit after taxes; not just after Amazon fees.

This makes a big difference because if you don’t factor VAT in, your numbers might look better than they really are.

👉 By the way, if you’d like to try Sellerboard yourself, here’s a special extended free trial I was able to arrange.

And before we go deeper, I recommend checking out this full walkthrough I did with Jenny Adams from Sellerboard.

In that video, we went step by step through all the features, including VAT setup, and shared best practices.

What VAT in Sellerboard Means

VAT (Value-Added Tax) is a consumption tax applied to most goods and services in many countries.

For Amazon FBA sellers in VAT-regulated markets (like the UK and most of the EU), it’s not optional; it’s mandatory.

Inside the Seller board dashboard, VAT isn’t just a side note.

You can actually input the VAT percentage that applies to your marketplace.

For example:

  1. In the UK, VAT is generally 20%.

  1. In Germany, it’s usually 19%.

When you set this up in Sellerboard, all of your sales, expenses, and profit reports get recalculated with VAT included.

-: Gentle Reminder :-

Why It Matters for Amazon Sellers

This feature can seem small, but if you’re selling in VAT zones, it’s huge.

Here’s why:

  1. Accurate Profit Visibility - Without VAT, your bottom line might look higher than it really is. Sellerboard prevents that false optimism.

  1. Smarter Pricing Decisions - When you see true margins, you can adjust your prices with confidence.

  1. Wholesale & EU Focus - If you’re doing wholesale in the UK or Europe, VAT can apply right on top of your sales price. This makes VAT settings especially critical.

  1. Compliance & Planning - Having VAT baked into your reporting keeps you aligned with your tax obligations and makes cash flow planning easier.

Step-by-Step Example of VAT in Sellerboard

Let’s walk through a quick example using the UK market.

Say you’re selling a product for £30 on Amazon.

Here’s what happens without VAT settings:

  1. Sale price: £30

  1. Amazon fees: £7

  1. Product cost: £10

  1. Profit shown: £13

That looks good at first glance.

But in reality, the UK charges 20% VAT.

On £30, that’s £6 VAT.

So when you enable VAT in Sellerboard:

  1. Sale price: £30

  1. VAT: £6

  1. Amazon fees: £7

  1. Product cost: £10

  1. True profit: £7

Instead of £13, you’re really making £7 per sale.

That’s a big difference, and seeing it clearly can change how you price, how you restock, and even how you run ads.

If you sell across multiple EU countries, it helps to know the exact rates you’ll face in each. Learn more in: VAT Rates in Europe for Amazon Sellers.

Final Thoughts

VAT may feel like a headache, but ignoring it is worse.

The numbers you see in Sellerboard can influence your pricing, advertising, and growth strategies.

With VAT enabled, you’re not just seeing “paper profits,” you’re seeing your real profits.

To me, that’s what makes Sellerboard so valuable.

It gives you confidence that you’re working with accurate numbers, not inflated ones.
