Walmart Keyword Rank Tracking with Helium 10 | Vova Even

The quick answer
How do you track Walmart keyword rankings?
Use Helium 10 Keyword Tracker to select Walmart, add your product URL or product ID, and enter relevant keywords. Review the recorded organic and sponsored positions over time. Check your account’s Walmart limits and available features before starting; tracking measures visibility but does not improve rankings by itself.
Where does your product appear when a shopper searches Walmart? That is the question I want this guide to help you answer. A listing can look polished and still be difficult to find for the searches that matter.
My short video with Carrie Miller from Helium 10 introduces Walmart keyword tracking. Below, I expand that topic into a practical setup and review process, with examples you can adapt to your own products.

Set up Walmart tracking with the right product ID
Start with one live Walmart listing and a manageable keyword list. This makes it easier to confirm that you are tracking the correct item before expanding across your catalog.
- Open Keyword Tracker. Find it in the Helium 10 Tools menu and select Walmart in the marketplace selector.
- Add your product. Use the Walmart listing URL or its product ID. An Amazon ASIN is a different identifier.
- Enter relevant keywords. Include the main product term and accurate descriptive phrases that customers might use.
- Start tracking. Save the product and allow the first results to populate. An empty initial table is not proof that your listing cannot rank.
- Confirm the baseline. Check the product, marketplace, tracked phrases, and observation date before interpreting any movement.
Helium 10’s official Walmart walkthrough demonstrates this workflow. Button labels and allowances can change, so follow the current prompts in your account.
Choose Walmart keywords worth monitoring
I would begin with a short list that answers a business question. For example, if you sell a stainless steel mixing bowl, you might track “mixing bowl,” “stainless steel mixing bowl,” and a relevant size or set description. Only include attributes your product actually has.
Organize your choices into three groups. This is a suggested working method, not a required Helium 10 setting:
Core terms
The basic product name. These show whether your listing is visible for the category shoppers recognize.
Specific terms
Material, size, quantity, or use case. These help you evaluate searches that closely match your actual offer.
Test terms
Relevant phrases discovered during research. Keep them separate so an experiment does not distract from your established priorities.
For additional ideas, my Walmart Cerebro guide explains reverse product research. Use competitor findings as candidates to review, rather than copying every phrase into your listing.
A useful relevance check is simple: if someone searched this phrase and saw only my product image and title, would the match make sense? Remove phrases that depend on features, quantities, or materials you do not offer.
Read organic rank, sponsored rank, and search volume correctly
Keep organic rank, sponsored rank, and search volume separate. They describe different things, and none tells the complete story of a product’s performance.
| Metric | Meaning | Useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Organic rank | Recorded position in unpaid search results. | Is visibility improving across several observations? |
| Sponsored rank | Recorded position of an advertising placement. | Does the ad report also show worthwhile results? |
| Search volume | An estimate of demand for a search phrase. | Is the estimate for Walmart, and is the phrase relevant? |
| Rank history | How recorded positions change over time. | What changed around the same dates? |
A move from position 30 to position 12 is an improvement in recorded placement. It does not mean sales increased by the same proportion. The listing still needs to win the shopper’s attention and offer a compelling reason to buy.
Walmart also needs its own interpretation. Helium 10’s Walmart research documentation describes how sponsored placement can affect whether the same product appears organically in the observed results. A missing organic observation therefore deserves investigation before you conclude that visibility disappeared.
Search volume is an estimate, not your listing’s traffic. Keep Amazon figures separate from Walmart figures, even when the phrase is identical. A strong opportunity on one marketplace needs validation on the other.
Use Boost for closer observation during a test
Boost increases tracking frequency; it does not push a product higher in Walmart search. That distinction matters because the name can sound like a promotion feature.
Helium 10’s Keyword Tracker overview describes hourly observations for ten days when Boost is active. Its older Walmart training demonstrates the same concept. Confirm that Boost is available for your Walmart keywords and check the allowance shown in your account.
I would reserve more frequent tracking for a specific observation window: a launch, an important listing revision, or a planned advertising test. Write down what you changed and what you expect to learn before activating it.
Example: you revise a product title
Record the original title, the new title, and the date. Monitor the relevant phrases and review business results alongside rank. If you also change price and advertising, record those changes too; otherwise you may credit the title for a result caused by something else.
More frequent data is useful only when it informs a decision. Watching every fluctuation without a review plan can make you react too quickly to ordinary movement.
Build a weekly Walmart keyword review
A repeatable review is more useful than checking random keywords whenever sales feel slow. I suggest one weekly review, with additional checks around a planned change.
First, compare matching periods. Look at the same product and keyword group. Keep the date ranges consistent, and note any gaps in observations. A single strong day should not erase a weaker pattern across the rest of the week.
Next, investigate one meaningful change. If several important phrases weaken together, check whether the offer is live, inventory is available, and the product details still describe the item correctly. Also review recent changes to pricing, shipping promises, or advertising.
Then connect visibility with outcomes. Review orders, advertising results, and profit separately. A better position is encouraging, but the practical question is whether the business benefits from the attention.
Finally, record one next action. Write what you will change, why, and when you will review it. Keep an export or dated note so you can compare your expectation with the next result.
Practice scenario: rank improves, but orders stay flat
This is an illustrative example. A storage container moves from position 28 to 14 for a relevant phrase, while weekly orders remain unchanged. Review demand, clicks where available, price, images, and the delivery offer. Keep observing before deciding that the keyword is worthless or that the ranking improvement guarantees future sales.
For a team, add an owner to each action. “Review the main image by Friday” is easier to follow up than “improve conversion.” A clear note also prevents two people from changing different parts of the offer without realizing it.
Avoid mistakes that muddy your ranking data
Three habits can make a useful tracking report harder to interpret. They are easy to avoid once you decide what each review should answer.
Changing the keyword list every week. Discovery is useful, but constantly replacing your core phrases makes comparison harder. Keep a stable group for ongoing measurement and a separate group for experiments. When you retire a phrase, save the reason and any history you may need later.
Treating every competing product as a fair comparison. A single bowl and a six-piece set can appear for similar searches while serving different needs. Compare the actual offer: quantity, material, size, price, and intended use. A competitor’s position can suggest something to investigate without making its strategy the right one for your product.
Acting before checking the observation. If a result looks surprising, confirm the marketplace, product, keyword spelling, and timestamp first. Then inspect the live offer and recent changes. This brief check helps prevent a reporting misunderstanding from turning into an unnecessary listing edit.
I also like to separate facts from explanations in review notes. “The recorded position changed from 18 to 29” is an observation. “The new title caused the decline” is a hypothesis. Keeping those sentences separate makes the next investigation clearer and leaves room for other explanations. Over time, those notes become a useful record of what you tested and what remains uncertain.

Walmart Keyword Tracker: frequently asked questions
Does Helium 10 Keyword Tracker support Walmart?
Yes. Helium 10 provides Walmart keyword tracking, and its current documentation includes Walmart US rank history and keyword management. Verify marketplace access in your own account before choosing a plan.
How many Walmart keywords can I track?
Use the allowance displayed in your account. Older videos and articles may show limits that belonged to a particular plan or product version. Do not treat those figures as a universal current entitlement.
Can I use a free account for this workflow?
A free account can help you explore Helium 10, but access is limited. Check whether the Walmart tools and tracking capacity you need are included. A free account and a paid-plan trial are different offers.
Why is a keyword rank missing?
Check the product ID, marketplace, phrase, and data timestamp. New tracking may still be populating, or the product may not have been observed in the checked results. A blank value alone does not establish why it is missing.
Will tracking keywords improve my Walmart SEO?
Tracking helps you measure visibility and evaluate changes. Improvements come from the work you do on the offer, listing, and broader selling strategy. Treat the tracker as feedback for that work, not an automatic ranking service.
