Dmytro's Journey to Selling His First $1,000 on Amazon FBA

Vova Even here, and today I have a really exciting story to share with you all.


It's about Dmytro Kravchenko, who was able to sell his first $1,000 on Amazon in just three weeks!


I was intrigued by this, so I decided to have a chat with him to find out more about his experience.

I've been selling on Amazon since 2016, and I've created hundreds of videos on YouTube about it.

He's originally from Ukraine but has been living in Poland for the past 12 years.


He started his Amazon journey a year ago, but it wasn't until three weeks ago that he made his first big sale.

The Beginning of Dmytro's Amazon Journey

So, how did Dmytro get started with Amazon?


Well, it all started when he was in a tough situation.


He didn't have a job and needed to provide for his newborn baby and young family.

He was skeptical at first, but he decided to look into it and see if it was something he could do.


He started watching videos of seasoned sellers on Amazon UK and Amazon USA, who were making thousands of dollars.

But hold on, folks, it wasn't just the course that made him an overnight sensation.


Dmytro put in a lot of hard work and dedication to make it happen.


He faced challenges, but he didn't give up and kept pushing forward.

Setting Up an LLC and Product Research Struggles

One of the first things Dmytro did was to set up an LLC company in the United States, even though he was based in Poland.


This allowed him to obtain a tax number and take care of all the necessary legal stuff.


However, the real challenge for him was product research.


The Struggle with Product Research

Now, onto the challenging part: product research.


Dmytro tried using Helium 10 and other services to find a profitable product, but he was running into a lot of roadblocks.


Low prices, thin margins, and saturated markets made it difficult to find a product that would make him stand out.


The Unexpected Discovery on TikTok

As they say, you never know where you’ll find your golden opportunity.


One day, while Dmytro's wife was scrolling through TikTok, he noticed an Asian gadget video that caught his attention.


He saw a product that he thought could be a good fit for Amazon, so he searched for it on the platform.


To his surprise, there were only two sellers of the product, and the margin looked promising.


Negotiation Challenges

Dmytro tracked down the manufacturer on Alibaba and began negotiating with them.


However, after some back and forth, he realized that the lead time was too long and the custom packaging costs were too high.


So he went back to the drawing board.


A Different Design and a New Manufacturer

Fortunately, Dmytro didn't give up on his search and eventually found the same product with a different design.


Since there were no similar designs on Amazon, he thought this could be a good opportunity.


He negotiated with a new supplier and even though the price wasn't as low as he hoped, he went ahead with the order.


The manufacturer made custom packaging and inserts for him, and Dmytro managed to stay within his budget.


Dealing with Freight and Finding a Reliable Person

The next step was to deal with freight from China to the United States.


But before doing that, Dmytro wanted to extract some extra keywords from his competitors and conduct a test listing.


He called a friend in the US who had been selling on Amazon for five years and asked for some advice.


His friend recommended a reliable freight forwarder who could handle all the necessary taxes and ensure that the goods arrived safely in the US.


So, Dmytro contacted the freight forwarder and agreed on a price, which was a little higher than what he had seen on Alibaba But he was willing to pay more to ensure that his products would safely arrive on Amazon.


After one and a half months of sailing from China to the United States, the products finally arrived on land.


However, another problem soon arose when the products were being transported to his friend's warehouse via UPS.

Dealing with UPS

Despite having the correct address, UPS, the courier, refused to deliver the packages to Dmytro's friend's warehouse, claiming that the receiver had moved and therefore, they are unable to deliver the package.


Dmytro knew that this was not true because it was a public warehouse that was open 24/7.


He immediately opened a case with UPS and proved that the address was correct by sending a package to the same warehouse and receiving it successfully.


Despite facing these challenges, Dmytro didn't stop chasing his dreams.


When UPS gave him a hard time about delivering his products, he didn't back down.


Instead, he paid the return fees and shipped the goods straight to his friend's house before finally sending them off to Amazon.


Talk about dedication!


And that's not all - Dmytro went the extra mile to ensure his products were protected during the long sea journey to Amazon.


He asked his manufacturer to pack the items in triple-layered cardboard boxes, and even had them wrapped up one more time for good measure.


So he didn't mess around quality control – he knew that factors like humidity and rough handling could be a serious threat to his products' well-being.


Perseverance and Problem-Solving

From Dmytro's experience, it's clear that shipping from China to the US can be a tricky process, but it's not impossible. 


His experience shows that Amazon selling is not for the faint-hearted.


There will be challenges along the way, but you have to be willing to solve them.


Dmytro continued to carry on even when things didn't go as planned.


Now here are some key takeaways that we can learn from Dmytro's story:


  1. Always do your research – Dmytro found his first product through a funny TikTok video, but he still did his due diligence by checking the numbers on Amazon and sourcing the product from Alibaba.

He persisted in proving that the delivery address was correct and found a way to do so by sending a package to the warehouse. It's important to keep pushing through obstacles and find creative solutions to problems.

Take extra precautions to protect your products – Dmytro learned that it's crucial to wrap the products securely when sending them via sea freight, as the journey can expose them to humidity and other potential hazards. It's also important to work with a reliable freight forwarder who can help ensure that the products arrive at their destination in good condition. By taking these extra precautions, you can avoid damage to your products and minimize the risk of returns or negative reviews.


Building Organic Ranking and Driving Sales through PPC and Influencers

Once Amazon checked his goods and gave him the green light, Dmytro finally started selling his products about three weeks ago.


It was slow at first, with only 50 units sold at a price of $17.95, but hey, it's better than nothing.


He made back all his margin just by selling on Amazon alone.


Unfortunately, the long manufacturing and shipping process made it impossible for Dmytro to use PPC (pay-per-click) to boost his organic ranking right away.


To make matters worse, there were already 15 sellers on Amazon offering similar products, with 14 of them from China.


Their prices were extremely low, at around $9.99, making it difficult for him to compete. 


However, he remained determined to hold his ground and keep the prices high because he knew his product was better and had a unique design.


So, Dmytro decided to learn about PPC in order to boost his organic ranking.


"I watched some videos and case studies on the process, and launched a bunch of campaigns," he said. "It took me two days to get to the first page for my top five main high-volume keywords in sponsored rankings. And after two weeks, I got to the first half of the page one organically for the two main keywords," he added.


But what's really exciting is that Dmytro started getting organic sales just two days ago.


He said he's planning to slow down with the PPC in a week or so and focus on getting influencers to drive outside traffic to Amazon.


That's because unfortunately, he doesn't have any family or colleagues in the US who can buy his products, and he doesn't want to risk playing with strange stuff that goes against Amazon's TOS.


"As an entrepreneur, I believe in doing things the right way and building a sustainable business that will last in the long run. While it may be tempting to try and cheat the system, I know that it's not worth the risk. As they say, you can play the game, but you can also play and lose everything. I just can't afford to take that chance. Plus, I have a strong belief that if something is meant to be mine, it will come to me naturally and I don't have to manipulate the system to get it. So, I am focusing on building my business the right way, through honest marketing and hard work, and I am confident that success will follow."

So, that's pretty much Dmytro's success story.


He went from having an idea to becoming a successful Amazon seller, all within a year.


The journey wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but he learned a lot and persevered through all the challenges he faced.


Now, he has a product that's selling well and he's even getting some organic reviews.


Dmytro's Future Plans for His Amazon Business

Now, let's talk about Dmytro's plans for the future.


When I asked him where he sees his business a year from now, he said he wants to launch another product, which is totally cool.


Gotta keep those products flowing, right?


But here's the thing, folks – he's not just launching another product for the heck of it.


He wants it to be profitable enough to fund the launch of yet another product.


I mean, who doesn't want to make money, am I right?


He's invested pretty much all of his savings into this venture, so he's got to be smart about his spending.


I believe that your business should work and earn on its own evaluation and growth.


I personally don't want to invest in something that's not making me any money.


And who can blame me?


But that doesn't mean I'm not willing to put in the work to make it happen.


In fact, I'm already reinvesting as much as I can into my business, and putting money from my job into it too.


In my first year, I even took out a loan of $10,000 to get things moving.


And guess what?


By the end of that year, I did $147,000 in sales, $21,000 in profits, and invested most of that profit back into the business.


That's the way to do it!


But what about the future, you ask? Well, hold onto your hats, because I'm thinking BIG.


I'm not satisfied with just making a decent profit; I want to build my business up to where I'm making at least $3,000 a month in net profit from each product.


And you know what?


That's totally doable!


I've already got a great product, and I'm not stopping there.


I'm planning to expand my line even further, and I am optimistic that my future will be bright and I will be successful.


Currently, I'm looking for products with a 400% return investment.


That's like finding a unicorn, but I'm doing it.


Of course, it hasn't always been easy.


In the beginning, I was negative and had to invest a lot into ads and good listings.


But with time, I figured out the numbers and found the right products with 300% return investment over 40% margins before PPC.


With PPC, my partner and I are getting about 100% to 150% ROI and about 20-24% margin after the ads.


That's how we're able to grow our business and make a profit, while still having a life.


And you know what?


I've got some great advice for anyone looking to start their own business.


First, you need to have the right mindset.


It might sound like a cliché, but it's true.


You need to believe in yourself and work hard, and of course, take care of the legal documents, certifications, patents, and all that jazz.


Besides it all, you must also need to believe and work hard as hell.


Running a business isn't easy, but there's no other way to do it.


You need to work hard, believe in yourself, and a little bit of luck wouldn't hurt either.
