Helium 10 Review Insights: Amazon Review Analysis Guide

In this guide
The quick answer
How do you use Helium 10 Review Insights to improve an Amazon listing?
Helium 10 Review Insights helps you turn Amazon customer feedback into product and listing ideas. Open a product page, launch the Chrome Extension, choose Analyze Reviews, and study the topics customers mention most. Compare positive and negative themes, rating impact, and trends, then use repeated evidence to clarify benefits, fix confusing claims, improve images, or prioritize product changes.
Customer reviews are more than social proof. They are a running record of what buyers expected, what delighted them, and what disappointed them after the product arrived.
In my conversation with Carrie Miller from Helium 10, we looked at Review Insights inside the Chrome Extension and used recurring complaints such as “too small” and “would not stay attached” as clues for product improvement. That basic idea still matters today: do not read one review in isolation when the pattern across many buyers can tell you much more.
The interface has changed since the video was recorded, so this guide keeps the original lesson while showing how the current Review Insights experience works.

2026 update: The video shows an earlier Review Insights workflow. The current version uses Amazon's Customer Feedback API and focuses on topic insights, mentions, star-rating impact, six-month trends, variation-level analysis, category or parent-ASIN comparisons, and CSV export. Helium 10 currently lists Review Insights for paid subscribers in the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Japan. Check the current Review Insights documentation before relying on an older screen or marketplace list.
What does Review Insights show you now?
The current tool organizes customer feedback into topics rather than making you manually read every review from start to finish. That gives you a faster way to see what buyers repeatedly praise or criticize.
Topics and mentions
See recurring positive and negative themes and how often customers discuss them. A high mention count tells you a topic is common, not automatically that it is the biggest problem.
Star-rating impact
Separate topics customers mention frequently from the issues that most strongly push ratings up or down. This helps prioritize what deserves attention first.
Trends and comparisons
Review six-month topic trends, switch between child ASINs, and compare a product with its parent ASIN or category context before deciding whether an issue is isolated or widespread.
For me, the useful question is not “What did one unhappy buyer say?” It is “Which expectation keeps appearing, and can I solve it through the product, the listing, or both?” That keeps your decisions grounded in patterns rather than anecdotes.

How to use Helium 10 Review Insights step by step
- Open the Amazon product page. Start with your own listing or a close competitor that serves the same customer and solves the same problem.
- Launch the Helium 10 Chrome Extension. In the product summary, choose Analyze Reviews. If the listing has variations, make sure you are looking at the correct child ASIN.
- Read the negative topics first. Look for repeated complaints about fit, durability, setup, packaging, materials, missing parts, or unclear expectations.
- Compare mentions with rating impact. A frequently discussed feature may be neutral, while a less common failure can have a much stronger effect on ratings.
- Check the trend. Is the issue getting better, getting worse, or staying stable over the last six months? A worsening topic deserves a different response from an old issue that has already been corrected.
- Turn the evidence into an action. Decide whether the next move belongs in product development, quality control, packaging, listing copy, images, instructions, or customer education.
Turn customer pain points into better listing decisions
The video gives two simple examples: customers describing a product as “too small” and saying it “would not stay attached.” Neither comment should be copied blindly into your listing. First decide what caused the disappointment.
| Review signal | Question to investigate | Possible action |
|---|---|---|
| “Too small” appears repeatedly | Is the product genuinely undersized, or are dimensions difficult to understand before purchase? | Improve sizing, add a comparison image, show dimensions clearly, or explain the intended use case. |
| “Would not stay attached” repeats | Is the attachment weak, incompatible with certain surfaces, or poorly explained? | Improve the mechanism, clarify compatibility, add installation steps, or show the correct setup in images. |
| Customers praise one feature often | Is that benefit obvious before purchase? | Make the proven benefit easier to see in the title, bullets, images, or A+ content where appropriate. |
This is where Review Insights becomes useful for both product research and listing optimization. A competitor complaint can reveal an opportunity before you source inventory. A complaint on your own ASIN can reveal a mismatch between the product experience and the promise on the page.
Use reviews with product and keyword research, not instead of them
Review data explains customer experience, but it does not tell you the whole market. I would pair it with product demand, competitor strength, search behavior, costs, and your ability to manufacture a better offer.
For example, a niche may contain a clear complaint that you know how to solve, but the search demand could be weak or the improvement could make the product too expensive. On the other hand, a strong market with repeated dissatisfaction may justify deeper sourcing work.
When you move to the listing, use review language as research rather than permission to stuff customer phrases everywhere. Keep the wording accurate, readable, and relevant to what your product actually does.
What should you check before trusting the result?
Review Insights is a research aid, not a substitute for judgment. A product with few reviews may not return enough data for a strong pattern. Amazon's API may also return incomplete information for some products.
Variation selection matters as well. If a parent listing contains several sizes, colors, or models, the customer experience for one child ASIN can be very different from another. Confirm the variation before interpreting the topics.
Finally, distinguish a listing problem from a product problem. Better copy can clarify size, compatibility, or setup. It cannot repair weak materials, poor quality control, or a design that fails during normal use.
Is Helium 10 Review Insights free?
Helium 10 currently lists Review Insights for paid subscribers. You can still create a free Helium 10 account, but free users must upgrade to use this feature.
Can Review Insights analyze competitor products?
Yes. Open a supported Amazon product page and analyze the selected child ASIN. Use close competitors whose buyers and use cases genuinely overlap with your product idea.
What is the difference between mentions and star-rating impact?
Mentions show how often a topic appears. Star-rating impact shows how strongly that topic influences ratings. A common topic and an important rating driver can be different things.
Can you export Review Insights data?
Yes. The current tool supports CSV export for topic insights, trend information, and rating-impact data, which is useful when you want to compare products or share findings with a team.

Claim Helium 10 offer ↗The best use of Review Insights is a better question
The tool is most valuable when you enter with a decision to make. Which complaint should I solve first? Which benefit should my listing explain more clearly? Does one variation create more dissatisfaction than another? Has a product change improved the customer experience?
Use the video for the core principle: listen closely to what customers are telling you. Use the current Review Insights interface to organize that feedback, measure the patterns, and turn the strongest evidence into a practical next step.
