For example, let’s say you discover that lots of people on Amazon have been searching for “gardening shovels” for a long time.


This search term becomes what we call a keyword.


Now, if this keyword has been gaining popularity for a few years and there isn’t too much competition, that’s a good sign.


You can think, “Aha! Maybe gardening shovels are worth considering.”


Of course, there are still many other factors you’ll want to explore before jumping into selling.


But if you do decide to move forward, the next important step is to find other strong keywords related to your product.


Why You Need More Than One Keyword for Your Product


Let's stick with the gardening shovels' example.


Not everyone will search for them using the same name.


Some might call it something else, and others might search with a brand name instead.


You’ll want to include all the relevant terms in your product listing so your item shows up when people search for them on Amazon.


So, you’ll need to do some keyword research and put together a list.


This list might include terms like “garden shovel,” “gardening tool,” “garden tools,” “garden shovel gift,” “shovel garden,” “cleaning shovel,” and many more.


What you’re really trying to do is find the core group of keywords — this is called the semantic core.


Now, doing this by hand just isn’t practical.


You’ll need software to help.


Personally, I use tools like Helium 10, Jungle Scout, etc.


There are also many other great tools out there designed to help with Amazon keyword research.

How to Build a Strong Amazon Product Title with Keywords


Once you’ve gathered your list of main keywords, it’s time to build your product listing.


You want the keywords to sound natural when you include them.


They should fit into sentences that clearly describe your product.


For example, your product title might read: “Big Gardening Shovel for Indoor Gardening.”


That one title alone includes three key terms — “gardening shovel,” “big gardening shovel,” and “indoor gardening.”


Next, you can add attribute keywords to further enhance your message, like “with sharp blade,” “long ergonomic handle,” or even “lifetime warranty.”


A quick tip though — adding a lifetime warranty to your title can be tricky.


Amazon has certain rules about that, so be careful.


But in general, you want to build a product title that includes your top-performing keywords.


Where to Use Keywords in Bullet Points and Descriptions


Beyond the title, you also have bullet points and a product description on Amazon.


These areas give you even more space to include helpful information about your product.


You’ll want to naturally add your keywords here, too.


That way, when people search for those terms, your product will show up.

Since I have a background in marketing and copywriting, I know how to write effective bullet points and craft a great title.


But not everyone has that experience, and that’s totally fine.

For example, I know sellers who aren’t fluent in English — they still manage to do well on Amazon because they hire experts to write their listings for them.
