If you’ve ever wondered how Jungle Scout got started or who’s behind this tool that so many Amazon sellers use, this article is for you.
Today, I’ll walk you through Jungle Scout’s story and share a
few helpful resources you might want to check out.
Oh, and if this is your first time here, hey! I’m Vova Even.
I’ve been selling on Amazon since 2016, and Jungle Scout was actually the first tool I ever used for product research.
So you could say I’ve been around for most of their journey too.
Let’s get into the story.
Who Created Jungle Scout?
Jungle Scout was created back in 2015 by Greg Mercer.
At the time, Greg was an engineer who had already started selling products on Amazon.
Like many of us, he ran into the same challenge figuring out which products to sell and how to make smart, data-driven decisions.
Instead of relying on guesswork or spreadsheets, Greg decided to build something better.
And that’s how Jungle Scout was born, originally as a simple Chrome extension that helped Amazon sellers track sales estimates for products.
Since then, it has grown into a complete software suite with dozens of tools built specifically for Amazon sellers.
The Mission Behind Jungle Scout
According to the About Us page on Jungle Scout’s official website, their mission is pretty clear:
“To provide powerful data and resources to help entrepreneurs and brands grow successful businesses on Amazon.”
This sums up the entire idea behind the company.
It’s not just about software, it’s about giving sellers the tools they need to make smarter decisions, save time, and build long-term businesses.
What started with one person has now turned into a team of more than 200 people spread across the globe.
My Honest Review of Jungle Scout: Is Jungle Scout Easy To Use?
Where Is Jungle Scout Based?
Jungle Scout is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
They also have offices in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), and Shenzhen, China.
I actually had a chance to visit the Vancouver office once!
I was there with my friend Dan McGill, the dude who sold his Amazon business, twice. Here's the story of Dan's Amazon FBA business exit.
We showed up on a weekend, so the place was quiet, but hopefully next time we’ll meet some of the team in person.
We’re in good contact, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.
What the Wikipedia Page Says About Jungle Scout
Let’s talk about the Wikipedia page about Jungle Scout now, where they’ve listed a bit more of the technical and corporate background.
It fills in some interesting blanks.
For example, in 2021, Jungle Scout was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the Best Startup Employers.
That’s a pretty solid stamp of approval.
Major Milestones and Acquisitions
As the company grew, they started expanding their services in different ways.
Here are two important milestones that stand out:
🟠 2018: Acquisition of Forecastly
Forecastly was a tool focused on predictive analytics and demand forecasting for Amazon sellers.
By bringing it under the Jungle Scout brand, they improved their ability to help sellers predict how much inventory they need and when to reorder.
These days Jungle Scout has it's Inventory Manager tool, which clients use for inventory management on Amazon.
🟢 2021: $110 Million Growth Funding + Acquisition of Downstream Impact
This was big.
In March 2021, Jungle Scout raised $110 million in growth capital led by Summit Partners.
Part of that investment was used to acquire a company called Downstream Impact.
Downstream specialized in Amazon advertising technology, which allowed Jungle Scout to expand into PPC campaign management and optimization.
This made the platform more well-rounded, covering everything from product research to advertising analytics.
-: Gentle Reminder :-
The Data Engine Behind Jungle Scout
Now let’s talk about technology.
Jungle Scout processes data from more than 500 million Amazon products.

Here’s what that means for sellers:
You can evaluate market demand

The company also publishes detailed reports and studies that help shed light on things like global imports, buyer preferences, and seller trends on Amazon.
