Unlocking Your Entrepreneurial Creativity: Generating Ideas for Your Debut Amazon Product

Selling products on Amazon can be a lucrative business, but the process of choosing the right product to sell can be daunting, especially for beginners who don't have a niche or preference in mind.

But don't worry, you're not alone.

Many successful entrepreneurs have also been in your shoes, including myself.

With millions of products available on the platform, it's naturally hard to know where to start.

However, with a strategic approach and market research, anyone can find the perfect product to sell on Amazon.

In this article, I will go through some tips on how to choose the perfect product for your Amazon store.

It's based on my recent video with Lucia Cracogna which you can watch right below.

My name is Vova Even, Amazon seller since 2016.

Enjoy! :)

Now, without further ado, let's begin!

Tip #1 - Start with What You Know and Love

If you have a particular niche or interest, start by exploring products within that space.

For example, if you love fitness, you could consider selling gym equipment or supplements.

This way, you'll have a better understanding of the market and the needs of your potential customers.

Additionally, starting with a niche that you know and love can make the work feel less like a chore and more like a passion project.

If you're already interested in the products that you're selling, it'll be easier to stay motivated and engaged in your business.

Plus, your existing knowledge and enthusiasm for the products will show through in your marketing and sales, making it easier to connect with potential customers.

So, before you begin your product research, consider starting with a niche that you're already passionate about.

By the way, Lucia also asked a question about shipping products to Amazon, I hope this post will be useful for you.

Tip #2 - Use Data to Your Advantage

One common challenge for beginners is not having a specific niche or preference.

This can make it difficult to know where to begin.

But, as experienced sellers know, the key is to start with data.

There are many tools available, such as Helium 10 or Jungle Scout, that can help you research products based on sales and reviews on Amazon.

By inputting certain criteria into their product research tools, such as monthly sales of a product of over $10,000 and less than 30 reviews for that product, you can discover profitable products within different categories.

Keep in mind that you may come across some unexpected products while doing your research, like kitchen scissors, which was the first product that I found success with.

While I didn't have a particular interest in this niche, I saw that there was a demand for the product and so, I decided to sell it.

To make my product stand out, I took the time to analyze my competitors and made sure to address any issues that they were experiencing.

I also packaged my kitchen scissors in a gift box, making them a unique and giftable option, and priced them slightly higher than my competitors.

So, the bottom line is, while it's essential to have a general idea of what you want to sell, don't be afraid to explore different product categories.

You never know where you might find success, and with the right strategy, you can make any product stand out in a crowded market.

Tip #3 - Look for Gaps in the Market

If you have a niche in mind, start by researching the products in that space.

Look at the top-selling products, read customer reviews, and try to identify gaps in the market that you can fill.

This will help you stand out.

For example, as I mentioned, I added a gift box to the kitchen scissors to differentiate my product from others on the market.

You can use market research tools to find products with good sales and reviews within your niche.

For example the Helium 10 Review Insights tool.

Tip #4 - Don't be Afraid to Pivot

If you can't find any products that fit your criteria, feel free to expand your niche or look for related products.

For example, if you're interested in fitness but can't find any products you want to sell in that space, consider looking into supplements, workout equipment, or clothing.

Even if you want to start with a particular product, it's important to be flexible and willing to change direction.

After all, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I – too – when the kitchen scissors niche became oversaturated, shifted my focus to a new niche, barbecue products.

If I'd been too stubborn to change direction and explore new product categories, my business would have likely failed.

Sticking to a single product, even if it's not selling well, can be a recipe for disaster.

By refusing to adapt to the market, I could have missed out on new opportunities and ultimately driven my business into the ground.

Tip #5 - Research. Research. Research.

No matter how you choose your product, it's essential to do your research thoroughly.

This includes analyzing the competition, understanding the target market, and testing different strategies to optimize your sales.

Tip #6 - Stand Out from the Competition

Once you have identified a product to sell, you need to make sure it stands out from the competition.

I've already mentioned one way to do so above: You can differentiate your product by adding unique features or bundling it with complementary products.

Another way to have a leg up on your competition is by improving the listing quality.

Make sure you have high-quality product images and detailed product descriptions that highlight the features and benefits of your product.

Here's a post that teaches you how to create great images for your Amazon product.

Tip #7 - Focus on the Pricing Strategy

When it comes to pricing your product, you need to find a balance between profitability and competitiveness.

You don't want to price your product too high, but you also don't want to price it too low and undercut your profits.

Consider the cost of goods, Amazon fees, and any other expenses related to your product.

You can also look at the prices of similar products on Amazon and adjust your price accordingly.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the perfect product to sell on Amazon takes time and effort, but it can be done with the right research and strategy.

Whether you have a niche in mind or not, market research tools can help you find products with good sales and reviews.

Once you have identified a product, make sure it stands out from the competition by improving the listing quality and adding unique features.

Finally, find a balance between profitability and competitiveness when pricing your product.

That's it for today, and I'll see you next time.

Best regards,

Vova :)
