Understanding Review Velocity: Explained Step by Step
Review Velocity is the change in the review count over the last 30 days.
Basically, it shows you how many reviews a product has received or lost in the past month.
For instance, if you see the screenshot from my video above, there are different products each with a different review count.
The red number represents lost reviews while the green number represents received reviews.
So, you can see that the Michelangelo kitchen knife received 256 reviews from 11,000 sales in the last 30 days.
On the other hand, the DDF iohEF product lost 2,741 reviews. Yikes, that's a lot of lost reviews!
But before making a decision about any product, you must also look at its sales count.
You can use the sales tab in Xray to calculate the sales-to-reviews ratio.
This ratio shows you how many sales a product has made in relation to the number of reviews it has received.
So, for example, Michelangelo has made 11,000 sales and received 256 reviews.
By comparing the sales and reviews, you can determine if the product is doing well or not.
To make things easier, I suggest having the sales tab close to the Review Velocity tab.
This way, you can quickly compare the sales and reviews and see if the product is worth investing in.

How to Find Good Products to Sell on Amazon Using Review Velocity
Let's start with an example.
Say you're searching for a product, like a kitchen knife, on Amazon.
Once you find the main keyword for that product, search it over Amazon and launch the Helium 10 Chrome extension to scan the products on that page.
Now, when you're scanning those products, pay attention to their Review Velocity.
You want to find niches with low review velocity.
This means that the sellers in that niche aren't that great at getting reviews, which is a good thing for you!
Generally, it's good to see a low review count as well. But, if you see a lower review velocity count, that's even better!
Now, you might be wondering what a low review ratio actually looks like.
Well, it depends on the niche, but let's take a look at an example.
For instance, one product sold about 11,000 units and received 256 reviews, which means it has a review ratio of about 2.5%.
On the other hand, another product sold 1,065 units and received 102 reviews, which means it has a review ratio of 10%.
That's pretty high, to be honest!
If you find a niche where everyone is getting reviews really fast, that's actually not a good sign.
You want to find a niche where the review velocity is low, so you can have some ideas on how to get reviews and possibly even surpass your competitors in terms of the number of reviews.
So, when you enter a niche and see that the main competitors are doing pretty good sales, but their review velocity parameter is low, that's a great opportunity for you!
You can start to brainstorm some ways to get more reviews and hopefully come out on top.
And don't worry if you don't know how to get reviews!
There are plenty of ways to do it, I have a playlist dedicated to getting reviews on Amazon, with tons of tactics, or just using Amazon's own "Request a Review" button to ask customers for reviews after their purchase.
This can be done with the free Helium 10 Seller Assistant extension, or by using the automatic review request within the Follow-Up tool by Helium 10.
Sellerboard, and Jungle Scout software also offer this type of automatic review request.
In short, it's a really important part of the game if you want to stay competitive and get those sales rolling in. I've got a playlist that will help you out with some techniques to get those reviews, so make sure to check it out here.
But even if you're not sure how to get reviews, don't worry too much.
Sometimes reviews just come organically once you start getting sales, if you have a great product that overdelivers on the promise.
If you're not getting any reviews though, that could be a red flag.
You don't want your competitors to surpass you quickly in the review department, because that can impact your click-through and conversion rates in the long run.
How Review Velocity Helps You Avoid Bad Products on Amazon
One thing to keep in mind when you're scoping out a niche is the overall review velocity.
If most of your competitors are getting reviews at a slower rate, that's a good sign for you.
But if everyone is getting reviews at a similar pace, it's going to be much harder to stay in the game.
Keep an eye on the ratio of reviews to sales, and make sure you're not falling too far behind your competitors in this regard.
The number of reviews you can expect to get might also depend on the type of product or niche you're in.
Emotional products might attract more reviews than, say, a sponge for the kitchen.
So keep that in mind when you're looking at review velocity.
And remember, reviews aren't everything. Lol, made it sound like 'and remember, respect is everything' from GTA 2 :)
Anyhow, you still need to differentiate your product from the competition to stand out.
How Review Velocity Helps You Get More Reviews on Amazon
Now, let me break down how you can increase your reviews on Amazon by using the Review Velocity tab.
It's simple, really. You want to find people in different niches who have exceptionally high review velocity for their specific niche.
For instance, if the average review velocity in a niche is around 3-5%, and you come across someone with a review velocity of 15%, that's a good place to start.
The next step is to buy the product and pay close attention to what happens next.
Does the seller send you an email or message on Amazon or off Amazon?
Take note of what they do and how they engage with you.
Perhaps they send you a personal and emotional email that makes you feel connected to the brand.
This can eventually lead to a review, as you are more likely to leave one if you feel a personal connection to the brand.
Once you receive the product, be very attentive to the details.
You want to figure out what the product is doing differently that is causing it to get so many reviews.
Perhaps it's fixing a problem in the niche that was previously ignored by other sellers.
Maybe it's an exceptional product that makes a task easier.
Take the example of a knife that can cut anything with ease.
You want to look for those unique selling points that make the product stand out.
Another way to increase your chances of getting a review is to add a personal touch.
Maybe you can surprise your customers by adding a little sound that plays when they open the packaging.
Or include a little card that asks them to scan it for a special surprise. Once they scan it, you can collect their email and send them valuable content and gifts, eventually asking for a review.
You can also consider adding unexpected gifts to the box.
Maybe you can include a knife sharpener or a little something that was not mentioned in the product description.
Customers love surprises, and it can make them more likely to leave a review if they feel like they received more than they paid for.
Conclusion
So there you have it, folks!
Those are some creative ways to increase your reviews on Amazon.
Don't forget to use the Review Velocity tab and get the Helium 10 Chrome extension for free to make the process even easier.
Happy selling!
Also, your Helium 10 discount codes are VOVA10 and VOVA6M20. I recommend the first one for long-term savings!
